Hunt Launched for Paul McCartney’s Missing Bass Guitar

A historical global hunt is on: a group of hardcore fans of legendary band, The Beatles, have sent out an appeal to find a bass guitar that belonged to Sir Paul McCartney.

On Saturday, 2 September, those behind “The Lost Bass” project made the global appeal to solve “the greatest mystery in the history of rock and roll” via their official website to “help trace the bass”, and find the violin-shaped Hofner 500/1 electric bass that they claim belonged to the 81-year-old muso in the early ‘60s.

The cherished musical instrument that “powered Beatlemania” mysteriously disappeared three years after the band dissolved after their final gig in August 1966 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. It was rumoured to have been bought in Hamburg, Germany for £30, and recent reports claim the item could now be worth more than £10 million.

The brains behind the project include Nick Wass, a former marketing manager of Hofner; and Scott and Naomi Jones, who are journalists and TV producers involved in several high-level investigations and documentaries for English television.

Within a day of starting the project, the hunt has been inundated with “thousands of super-hot leads”, which they hope will lead to the instrument’s return to Sir McCartney, as per the website’s main goal.
